For one young woman with four small children, quality care meant choosing to live
and receive treatment for her advanced illness in hospital, cared for by hospice palliative
care specialists and supported by extended family. For as long as she could, she made
regular visits to her home, on day or overnight "passes," to spend time with her children
and husband. She felt this arrangement protected her children from the distress of
her most acute symptoms and treatments.
